Our clocks have fallen back, Christmas tree farms are selling their annual goods and discount stores are dropping prices - it looks like the holiday season is upon us, and no one knows better than Kenny Rogers. Preparing for his annual Christmas Tour - celebrating its 28th consecutive year - country music legend Kenny Rogers has traveled the States since October and will conclude the holiday feast December 23rd at Westbury, New York's Capitol One Bank Theatre.
The show, which has hit up several casino and resorts from Florida, California, and everywhere in between, finds typical Christmas fare with a flair of Kenny Rogers: The First 50 Years, the newest album to cite Rogers name. The 12 set compilation was generally featured in his October rounds, and by November 29th in Fort Pierce, Florida, Rogers' tunes changed to a more holiday- inspired hymn. "I've always loved this season," Rogers said in a press release. "I think because people in general are truly different. Look around...they smile more, they're more gracious, and generally seem happier." The season is all about smiles as Rogers celebrates his 50 years in the business with the Cracker Barrel exclusive set, which includes the new tracks "Something's Wrong in Vegas," Only Time Will Tell" and "She'll Believe in You." And the smiles find themselves around every corner throughout his three month trek when he busts out his typical holiday show with classics like "White Christmas," "O Holy Night" and "Let it Snow." Along with local choirs and children to make the annual show a unique delight for each city, this production remains a joy for everyone involved.
"It is a tremendous opportunity to be working closely with such a legendary artist as we join forces together to help children and their families around the world," Jenny Lockwald, World Vision's Executive Director for Artist Associates and Sponsor Engagement said. Sponsoring the event that has the legendary pop and country act performing his disc is a dream come true. Featuring some 45 greatest hits throughout every decade as well as new tracks in partnership with Dolly Parton, Rogers haas found success in every musical genre he has touched. Selling more than 105 million records worldwide, this four time Grammy Award winner has recorded over 65 albums in his career. Though he has reached his 50th year in the business, he doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon. "I really, really love what I'm doing," he says on his website. "People survive longer if they love what they're doing, because you just don't quit."
His success story seems pretty straight forward. For a man just topping 70, he got his start in the industry right away and hasn't stopped working the mic since. Born in Houston, he found his passion in high school with the group The Scholars that led to a record deal, two singles and a spot on American Bandstand. Flowing through a series of groups during the '50s, he stumbled upon solo success when his group Kenny Rogers and The First Edition disbanded. Though his work up to that point had only tapped into country music - instead focusing on pop and jazz - he turned to the genre that eventually led to fame. Particularly the single "Lucille" from 1977 exposed him to the commercial outlets where he would become synonymous in the next four decades.
